The unit was the first fully-fledged Corps in the entirety of the Ukrainian Military, as well as the Ukrainian National Guard, and was formed on the basis of the famous <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ukraine\/national-guard\/azov-brigade\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"11913\">Azov Brigade<\/a>, led by Colonel <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/commander\/denis-prokopenko\/\" data-type=\"commander\" data-id=\"36272\">Denys Prokopenko<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ukraine\/national-guard\/bureviy-brigade\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"17478\">Bureviy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ukraine\/national-guard\/azov-brigade\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"11913\">Azov<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ukraine\/national-guard\/chervona-kalyna-brigade\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"17483\">Chervona Kalyna<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ukraine\/national-guard\/kara-dag-brigade\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"17485\">Kara-Dag<\/a> Brigades all joined the structure of the corps, and the 5th Special Purpose Battalion &#8220;Lyubart&#8221; of the Azov Brigade was reformed and expanded as a separate brigade of the Ukrainian National Guard, becoming the <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ukraine\/national-guard\/lyubart-brigade\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"34111\">Lyubart Brigade<\/a> and joining the corps, being led by Lt. Col. <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/commander\/vadym-krykun\/\" data-type=\"commander\" data-id=\"44963\">Vadym Krykun<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In mid-August 2025, amidst the situation in the Pokrovsk direction deteriorating, the command of the corps was transferred to the Doprorillia area to help command and manage nearby units in an attempt to push back the enemy and to stabilize the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Insignia<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The insignia is a pointed chevron, following the theme of the Azov Brigade, and is depicted in pastel yellow and black colours. Grey subdued variants have also been seen. The central imagery of the insignia depicts an eagle, which is synonymous with the Azov Brigade&#8217;s battle flag, with a large one to mark the Corps designation, as well as an &#8220;Idea of the announced across all its active social channels the integration of the legendary <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ukraine\/national-guard\/kulchitskyi-battalion\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"11919\">Kulchitskyi Battalion<\/a> into the ranks of the brigade, being reformed into its <strong>4th Operational Battalion<\/strong>. Their combat training and coordination were led by Major General Serhiy Kulchytsky.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>In April 2014, 300 of these reservists took the oath of allegiance to the Ukrainian people, forming the 1st Reserve Battalion before deploying to eastern Ukraine. The following month, another 270 volunteers completed their training, forming the 2nd Reserve Battalion. They departed for eastern Ukraine on the same day a Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopter carrying Major General Serhiy Kulchytsky was shot down near Slovyansk.
