The Armed Forces of Ukraine are continuing their transition from a brigade-based structure to an army corps organization. On two separate occasions, MilitaryLand first uncovered the formation of three new army corps<\/a>, and later reported on the official establishment<\/a> of the 12th Army Corps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, thanks to contributions from our community, we\u2019ve identified two additional army corps currently in the process of formation\u2014the 17th and 19th Army Corps. The 17th was revealed through the unit\u2019s own social media presence<\/a>, while the 19th surfaced via the recruitment platform LobbyX<\/a>. Unfortunately, no further details are available about these formations at this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This discovery confirms our earlier assumptions when we uncovered the formation of the 15th, 18th, and 20th Army Corps\u2014that the Ukrainian Army is continuing to follow the sequence established by the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Army Corps. The only two yet to be revealed are the 14th and 16th Army Corps, though it's likely they will surface soon as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ukrainian Defense Forces are actively transitioning to a corps-based structure, with plans to establish between 18 and 20 corps, including those that existed prior to the reorganization. Each corps will generally consist of approximately five mechanized brigades, an artillery brigade, and specialized units for air defense, engineering, reconnaissance, communications, and unmanned systems operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Below is a list of all known corps, including some that have not been officially confirmed but have been revealed through various sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

National Guard<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The National Guard of Ukraine has formed two army corps based on two high-performing units\u2014the 12th Azov Brigade<\/a> and the 13th Khartia Brigade<\/a>. Although the National Guard includes many other units, there are currently no plans to establish additional corps formations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ground Forces<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Ground Forces serve as the primary branch for the formation of army corps. Currently, twelve army corps formations are known, with an additional three to five expected to be established. According to information obtained by MilitaryLand, these new corps are likely to continue the existing numerical designation sequence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the corps formations is expected to include the 24th Mechanized Brigade<\/a>, the 54th Mechanized Brigade<\/a>, and the 56th Motorized Brigade<\/a>. However, not all brigades will be incorporated into the corps structure\u2014some will remain under the direct command of the General Staff or the Ground Forces Command. According to sources from MilitaryLand, the 19th Missile Brigade<\/a> is one such example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naval Forces<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Naval Forces of Ukraine currently have one corps\u2014the 30th Marine Corps<\/a>, commanded by Maj. Gen. Dmytro Delyatsky. Despite comprising four marine brigades, three coastal defense brigades, and two artillery brigades\u2014making it the largest corps in the Defense Forces by number of units\u2014there are no plans to establish additional corps within the Naval Forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Territorial Defense Forces<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to Ukrainska Pravda<\/a> and earlier reports, the Ukrainian Command plans to establish at least one additional army corps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air Assault Forces<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before the transition to the corps system, the Air Assault Forces operated a single corps\u2014the 7th Rapid Reaction Corps<\/a>. As part of the reorganization, a second formation was introduced: the 8th Air Assault Corps, built around the 82nd Air Assault Brigade<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both brigades are currently deployed in Zaporizhia Oblast, alongside the previously announced brigades of the 17th Army Corps. Today, MilitaryLand obtained a gift certificate issued by the command of the 17th Army Corps<\/a>. According to the text on the certificate, the corps has been designated military unit number A5150 and is commanded by Colonel Volodymyr Silenko. Interestingly, the 30th Mechanized Brigade<\/a>, which he commanded prior to his appointment as corps commander, does not appear to have joined the corps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The commander<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Colonel Volodymyr Silenko, callsign Samara<\/em>, served in the Ukrainian Armed Forces from 1985 until 2005. In 2014, following Russia\u2019s aggression against Ukraine, he returned to active duty. Over the years, he has held several key positions, including deputy commander of the 92nd Mechanized Brigade<\/a> (now the 92nd Assault Brigade), chief of staff of both the 93rd Mechanized Brigade<\/a> and the 71st Jaeger Brigade<\/a>. In February 2023, he was appointed commander of the 30th Mechanized Brigade<\/a>. As MilitaryLand reported, Silenko was dismissed from this position on April 24, 2025, amid speculation that he could become a corps commander. This has now been confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two units join the corps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to the 17th Army Corps\u2019 social media pages<\/a>, the 411th Regiment of Unmanned Systems has now joined the corps, becoming its second unmanned systems unit. This was confirmed by footage published from the regiment\u2019s 3rd Battalion. Formerly known as the 411th Battalion of Unmanned Systems, the unit announced in December 2024 that it was expanding to a regiment, presumably in preparation for this integration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second unit to join the 17th Army Corps is the 118th Mechanized Brigade<\/a>, which has now left its previous formation under the 10th Army Corps<\/a>. In 2023, the 118th Brigade was one of the corps\u2019 core units and took part in Ukraine\u2019s southern offensive alongside the 116th<\/a> and 117th Mechanized Brigades<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New information has emerged regarding the 17th Army Corps of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. According to posts published on the unit\u2019s official Facebook page<\/a>, two additional brigades have been assigned to the corps: the 44th Artillery Brigade and the 128th Territorial Defense Brigade. Notably, the 44th Artillery Brigade is the first veteran artillery brigade to be subordinated under a corps-level formation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, some of these units may not be structurally subordinated to the 17th Army Corps and are instead temporarily assigned under its command. In June 2025, the transformation of the Defense Forces into a corps\u2011and\u2011brigade system entered its final phase as corps formations gradually assumed control of the front. Deploying to the Frontline<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The 17th Army Corps<\/a> has assumed responsibility for the area south of Zaporizhzhia. Meanwhile, the 19th Army Corps<\/a> has recently moved into the Toretsk and Kostyantynivka area, and the 20th Army Corps<\/a> has been deployed to positions south of Pokrovsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 7th Rapid Response Corps<\/a> is set to assume control of one of the most challenging sections of the frontline\u2014the Pokrovsk direction\u2014where it will support the 9th Army Corps<\/a> already operating in the area. Meanwhile, the 11th Army Corps<\/a> has taken over responsibility from the disbanded Operational Tactical Group Luhansk<\/a> and will now oversee the Chasiv Yar and Siversk sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Still a Long Way to Go<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Most of the brigades under corps command are not structurally subordinated to the corps, as a full reorganization of the front is currently impossible. At the same time, new corps-level units\u2014such as drone teams, reconnaissance elements, and engineering detachments\u2014are being formed from the remnants of other, already existing brigades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another challenge is that units belonging to a single corps are currently spread out along the frontline. For instance, the 1st Azov Corps<\/a> has the Azov Brigade<\/a> positioned south of Kostyantynivka, temporarily under the 19th Army Corps<\/a>' command, while the Bureviy Brigade<\/a> is deployed near Kupyansk\u2014over 100 kilometers apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The situation is somewhat different with the 3rd Army Corps<\/a>, which is among the strongest and most motivated formations within the Defense Forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike the Tactical Group Kreminna, which previously held this sector, the 3rd Army Corps command does not pressure units to retake lost positions at all costs. Before his appointment as commander of the 17th Army Corps in June 2025, Colonel Volodymyr Silenko led the 30th Mechanized Brigade for two years and had earlier served as chief of staff of the 93rd Mechanized Brigade and the 71st Jaeger Brigade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colonel Maksym Kituhin has been fighting in Donbas since 2014, taking part in the battles for Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, and Debaltseve. He began his career as a tank platoon commander, later led a battalion, and eventually rose to command the 17th Tank Brigade. In July 2025, he was appointed commander of the 20th Army Corps.

About the commander<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Colonel Yaroslav Sidorov graduated from the Kharkiv Institute of Tank Troops in 2007 and began his military service in a tank brigade. In 2014, as a tank company commander, he took part in the war in Donbas. His tank was the first to enter the liberated city of Slovyansk on July 5, 2014, and he participated in a 470-kilometer raid alongside airborne troops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2015, Sidorov was appointed commander of a tank battalion. Three years later, in 2018, he became deputy commander of the 1st Tank Brigade, where he faced Russian invasion forces in 2022. In 2023, he was appointed commander of the 17th Tank Brigade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2024, he assumed command of the 32nd Mechanized Brigade. In June 2024, Sidorov was appointed commander of the 14th Mechanized Brigade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly after his appointment, in July 2024, a group of soldiers from the brigade recorded a video message<\/a> calling for intervention, claiming that Sidorov\u2019s decisions had led to a significant increase in casualties.
