{"id":42338,"date":"2025-02-02T23:07:34","date_gmt":"2025-02-02T22:07:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/?post_type=unit&#038;p=42338"},"modified":"2026-05-05T19:51:05","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T17:51:05","slug":"phoenix-regiment-of-unmanned-systems","status":"publish","type":"unit","link":"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ua\/ukraine\/border-guards\/phoenix-regiment-of-unmanned-systems\/","title":{"rendered":"\u041f\u043e\u043b\u043a \u0431\u0435\u0437\u043f\u0456\u043b\u043e\u0442\u043d\u0438\u0445 \u0441\u0438\u0441\u0442\u0435\u043c \"\u0424\u0435\u043d\u0456\u043a\u0441"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Main Department of Unmanned Aerial Systems &#8220;Phoenix&#8221; is a military unit of the <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ua\/ukraine\/border-guards\/state-border-guards-administration\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"35124\">\u0410\u0434\u043c\u0456\u043d\u0456\u0441\u0442\u0440\u0430\u0446\u0456\u044f \u0414\u0435\u0440\u0436\u0430\u0432\u043d\u043e\u0457 \u043f\u0440\u0438\u043a\u043e\u0440\u0434\u043e\u043d\u043d\u043e\u0457 \u0441\u043b\u0443\u0436\u0431\u0438<\/a> (SBGSU), formed in December 2022 as specialized infantry group within the <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ua\/ukraine\/border-guards\/pomsta-brigade\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"26913\">3rd Luhansk Border Detachment<\/a>, under the leadership of Dmytro &#8220;Zemliak&#8221; Oleksiuk. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On February 24, 2022, the unit met the invasion at the outermost positions of Eastern Ukraine, standing where the border was first breached. The first year of the full scale invasion was defined by intense defensive operations across Kreminna, Rubizhne, Popasna, Lyman, and Svyatohirsk. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From December 2022, the formation took part in the defense of Bakhmut, and in May 2023, became the basis for the 2nd &#8220;Phoenix&#8221; Rapid Response Border Command, an infantry unit that first included dedicated drone operators within its structure. Six groups were dispatched to the United Kingdom for training under Program Interflex, and later the unit first operated heavy drone bombers and initiated FPV pilot training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On January 6, 2024, Phoenix took up defensive positions in Kostyantynivka, and despite having only 30\u201340 crew members, held its sector with great success, for six months of operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In July 2024, Phoenix officially was transformed in a Reconnaissance and Strike Unmanned Aerial Systems Command, becoming the first drone unit within the structure of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. The unit saw service in Kupyansk, Kurdyumivka, and Lyman sectors of the frontline. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By January 2025, the <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ua\/news\/rarog-and-phoenix-units-expand-to-drone-regiments\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/news\/rarog-and-phoenix-units-expand-to-drone-regiments\/\">Phoenix<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ua\/news\/rarog-and-phoenix-units-expand-to-drone-regiments\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/news\/rarog-and-phoenix-units-expand-to-drone-regiments\/\">unit was scaled up to regimental level<\/a> and left <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ua\/ukraine\/border-guards\/pomsta-brigade\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"26913\">\u0411\u0440\u0438\u0433\u0430\u0434\u0430 \"\u041f\u043e\u043c\u0441\u0442\u0430<\/a>, and the drone operators joined forces with four other prominent UAS regiments within the presidential initiative \u201cDrone Line\u201d. The numerical designation of the Phoenix unit remains unknown.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Also today, Rarog and Phoenix, along with the recently expanded 20th Regiment K-2, the 429th Regiment Achilles, and the 414th Brigade Birds of Madyar, announced a joint initiative titled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/revenge3FENIX2\/videos\/1143910103996765\">\"Power of Drones.\"<\/a> The project aims to recruit both civilians and military personnel, led by respected commanders who built their drone units from the ground up\u2014progressing from companies to battalions and now to independent regiments and a brigade.
