20th Brigade of Unmanned Drones is a drone unit of the Ground Forces. The unit was formed as a regiment in 2024, on the basis of K-2 Battalion of 54th Mechanized Brigade. The Ground Forces of Ukraine have established a new unit, the 20th Regiment of Unmanned Drones K-2, built on the foundation of the renowned K-2 Mechanized Battalion from the 54th Mechanized Brigade. The formation of this regiment was announced by the unit's commander, Hero of Ukraine, Lieutenant Colonel Kyrylo Veres. The primary mission of the newly created regiment will be to safeguard infantry lives and deliver critical support to combat units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regiment operates as an independent entity, having separated from the structure of the 54th Mechanized Brigade. The 20th Regiment of Unmanned Drones \"K-2\" and the 414th Unmanned Strike Aviation Brigade \"Birds of Madyar\" have been transferred from the Unmanned Systems of the Ground Forces, also known as the \"Drone Line,\" to the Unmanned Systems Forces, a separate branch of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the 20th Regiment is being expanded to brigade size, as announced by the commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert Brovdy, on his Telegram channel<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is expected that all remaining independent drone units of the Ground Forces will soon be consolidated under the command of the Unmanned Systems Forces. This step is largely formal, as these units have already been carrying out missions under its leadership within temporarily created groupings of forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Drone Line<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Unmanned Systems of the Ground Forces were established in 2024 as a result of dissatisfaction within the higher command regarding the development of the Unmanned Systems Forces. At the time, there was not enough political leverage to dismiss the commander, Vadym Sukharevsky, so a parallel drone structure was created instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2025, Sukharevsky was dismissed and replaced by Robert Brovdy, then commander of the 414th Brigade. One of Brovdy\u2019s first steps was to establish a unified grouping of forces, bringing together all drone units from both the Ground Forces and the Unmanned Systems Forces under a single command structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Unmanned Systems Forces are continuing to expand, with several of their units increasing in size. This development was confirmed by the commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, Major Robert Brovdy, also known as Magyar<\/em>, on his Telegram<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 14th Regiment of Unmanned Drones has been reorganized into the 1st Center of the Unmanned Systems Forces, while the 20th Brigade has officially completed its transition from a regiment to a full brigade, a process first reported<\/a> by MilitaryLand<\/em> on September 2, 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the 412th Regiment \u201cNemesis\u201d has been elevated to brigade level and is now designated as the 412th Brigade of Unmanned Systems Forces. The 413th Battalion \u201cRaid\u201d has also grown, expanding to the size of a regiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, the Unmanned Systems Forces account for just 2% of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
