As the long-anticipated reformation of the Ukrainian Defense Forces finally nears completion, being the transition of the military into a corps-brigade structure, it is time to unveil another corps formation. Namely, the 15th Army Corps<\/a> of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the Corps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The 15th Army Corps was first reported by MilitaryLand<\/a> back in March 2025. It was confirmed that the unit was forming in Rivne Oblast, western Ukraine, and had received its own unique insignia. At the time, two other structures, now known as the 18th <\/a>and 20th Army Corps<\/a>, were also observed to be forming alongside the corps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, MilitaryLand reported<\/a> that Colonel Ruslan Shevchuk has been appointed to the position of commander for the 15th Army Corps, having previously commanded the 93rd Mechanized<\/a> and 58th Motorized Brigades<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Composition of the Corps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In early July 2025, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces confirmed <\/a>that the 15th Army Corps was operating in Chernihiv Oblast, where its elements repelled a Russian sabotage group near the Hremyach checkpoint. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time, the 143rd <\/a>and 144th Mechanized Brigades<\/a> were confirmed to be active in this area, and are now deployed to northern Kharkiv Oblast, between Vovchansk and Kupyansk, as well as on the northern Russo-Ukrainian border, respectively. The 1st Territorial Defense Brigade<\/a> was also active around the northern border and appears to be temporarily assigned under the corps. More recently, the corps' social channels also confirmed <\/a>that the Chernihiv Border Detachment<\/a> was temporarily assigned under its command.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 10th Mountain Assault Brigade reportedly helped to form the basis of the corps and continues to carry out combat operations in the Siversk direction. The 44th Artillery Brigade<\/a>, previously part of the 17th Army Corps<\/a>, was recently reassigned to the 15th Army Corps following the newly established 54th Artillery Brigade<\/a>. The brigade continues to provide support in the Zaporizhzhia direction, fighting in the Orikhiv direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Newly formed units such as the 129th Heavy Mechanized Brigade<\/a> and the 158th Mechanized Brigade<\/a> have also been assigned to the corps, with both units predominantly fighting in Sumy Oblast, and some elements of the 129th fighting in Kharkiv Oblast, with elements now starting to enter the rear. The corps also includes several support elements, such as the\u00a0130th Reconnaissance Battalion<\/a>\u00a0and a newly formed drone unit, the\u00a0434th Battalion of Unmanned Systems<\/a>, which is\u00a0still undergoing formation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Insignia of the Corps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Since the establishment of the 15th Army Corps, first known to be in March 2025, the formation has undergone a series of changes to its insignia, ranging from drastic and minor changes over the course of several months. The first variant was reported alongside the discovery of the corps and appeared exclusively on MilitaryLand for the first time, redrawn by our contributor, Davomme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The insignia was distinguished with a complex design, with the shield being divided into two with an angular chevron separating the top and bottom of the insignia, with deep red at the top and black at the bottom. The central imagery included the coats of arms of the city of Rivne at the peak of the insignia, and the cross from the coats of arms of Rivne Oblast, western Ukraine, at the bottom, surrounded by a sword and scepter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, MilitaryLand was later contacted by the communications department of the 15th Army Corps, which stated that the insignia had not been officially approved and that a new one would be issued. An updated version of the insignia \u2014 this time officially approved, according to the communications department \u2014 appeared in June 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A third variant, featuring a Cossack cross at the top and the Roman numeral XV, combining elements of the first and second designs, appeared in October 2025.
