The Command of the Ground Forces of Ukraine has announced the reformation of the 142nd and 143rd Infantry Brigades into mechanized units via their social media platforms. The 142nd Brigade<\/a> updated its graphic description on January 2, 2025<\/a>, while the 143rd Brigade<\/a> changed its Facebook page name on January 6, 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These brigades join the 141st Mechanized Brigade<\/a>, which completed its transition in December 2024. We were the first to write about<\/a> it on December 15. It is highly likely that the 142nd and 143rd Brigades also underwent reformation in December 2024, though this information has only now been made public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, the 144th Infantry Brigade<\/a> is the sole remaining infantry unit among the 140-series brigades. Another brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces has been equipped with German-supplied Leopard 1A5 tanks. The latest unit to operate these tanks is the 142nd Mechanized Brigade.
