Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, it was reformed into a mechanized formation, being brought up to speed with the much needed capabilities of a modern fighting force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the outbreak of the full-scale invasion, the unit defended Kherson Oblast from rapidly advancing Russian forces in the first few months of the full-scale invasion. By the beginning of April 2022, they had liberated 11 settlements, and throughout the summer would continue to fight against Russian forces, liberating Ivanivka on July 11, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The brigade would receive its honorary title &#8216;Inhulets&#8217; in August 2022, before the beginning of the Ukrainian counteroffensive in the region, where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would note its performance, and in December of the same year, he would present the brigade with its battle flag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like many other units, the unit was redeployed to Bakhmut, in Donetsk Oblast, at the beginning of 2023, where it faced heavy fighting against Russia&#8217;s Wagner Mercenary Group and conventional Russian units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In September 2023, it became known that the <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ua\/ukraine\/armed-forces\/97th-mechanized-battalion\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"39749\">97-\u0439 \u043c\u0435\u0445\u0430\u043d\u0456\u0437\u043e\u0432\u0430\u043d\u0438\u0439 \u0431\u0430\u0442\u0430\u043b\u044c\u0439\u043e\u043d<\/a> was rebuilt from scratch based on the Azov-Kharkiv Special Operations Unit. In January 2024, the brigade would defend the city of Kupyansk, and later be transferred to the Lyman direction in March 2024, where it currently holds positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In July 2025, it was revealed that the 60th Mechanized Brigade had joined the newly established <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ua\/ukraine\/armed-forces\/3-%d0%b9-%d0%b0%d1%80%d0%bc%d1%96%d0%b9%d1%81%d1%8c%d0%ba%d0%b8%d0%b9-%d0%ba%d0%be%d1%80%d0%bf%d1%83%d1%81\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"44237\">3-\u0433\u043e \u0430\u0440\u043c\u0456\u0439\u0441\u044c\u043a\u043e\u0433\u043e \u043a\u043e\u0440\u043f\u0443\u0441\u0443<\/a>, formed on the basis of the legendary <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ua\/ukraine\/armed-forces\/3rd-assault-brigade\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"16214\">3-\u044f \u0448\u0442\u0443\u0440\u043c\u043e\u0432\u0430 \u0431\u0440\u0438\u0433\u0430\u0434\u0430<\/a>, where it would later be assigned a new commander, Dmytro Rohoziuk, who had served in the core brigade to help bring the newly integrated unit up to the standards and values that were expected in the corps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Volodymyr Fokin, an experienced commander from the 3rd Assault Brigade, stated before the appointment of Rohoziuk that the Inhulets Brigade had suffered from poor leadership and a lack of rotation, as well as basic knowledge of its standing forces. However, by January 2026, Rohoziuk reported major improvements, including sharply reducing the number of absent personnel and integrating experienced units from the 3rd Assault Brigade to train up existing and new personnel in the brigade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u0412\u0456\u0434\u0437\u043d\u0430\u043a\u0438<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The insignia depicts a pointed chevron, in dark blue and golden yellow colors, the same used by the legendary 3rd Assault Brigade. Its central design features a stylized lion in sharp, angular shapes, facing left, bearing a battle flag with both of its arms, a homage to the previous insignia of the brigade in a new, simplistic We were informed that the recruiter on Reddit\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/ukraineforeignlegion\/\">\/r\/ukraineforeignlegion<\/a> did not have approval to share the details on which our article was based, and the recruiter deleted his post at Kraken\u2019s request.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Additionally, we were told that while part of the unmanned component of the Kraken Detachment has requested to join the 3rd Army Corps, this move has not yet been approved by officials. The claim about the transfer of the entire Kraken Detachment to the 3rd Army Corps, shared by a second recruiter on the same subreddit, has been debunked by Kraken\u2019s official representative.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Both posts have since been deleted. We have honored Kraken\u2019s request and removed the section about them from our original story. The 2nd Mechanized Battalion has previously hosted a notable number of foreign personnel, as evidenced in interviews with its servicemen.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The brigade has also sought to recruit experienced soldiers from disbanding International Legion units, particularly the <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ukraine\/armed-forces\/1st-international-legion\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"23702\">1st International Legion<\/a>, targeting drone operators and infantry to strengthen its combat core. It has also incorporated servicemen from the German Volunteer Corps, formerly part of the 5th Sotnya of the <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ukraine\/armed-forces\/49th-assault-battalion\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"20360\">49th Assault Battalion<\/a> with these fighters having extensive combat experience alongside popular formations such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ukraine\/main-intelligence-directorate\/russian-volunteer-corps\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"37205\">Russian Volunteer Corps<\/a>.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Not all are however in favor of these changes.
