The unit was intended to be one of the spearheads of the southern Ukrainian offensive in 2023, but its M1 Abrams tanks did not arrive in Ukraine on time, and Leopard 2A6 tanks had to be reassigned to it at short notice. Later in 2023, the brigade commander, Oleksandr Sak, was removed due to the unit’s battlefield performance, and Oleksandr Pavliy was appointed in his place. He was accused of deploying rear-area troops as assault infantry, which led to a significant loss of the brigade’s combat potential.
