A total of 13 corps are being established within the Ground Forces, two within the Air Assault Forces, one in the Marine Corps, and two in the National Guard. Some corps include inactive brigades or units that exist only on paper without actual personnel. It remains unknown what the goal is for these paper brigades. There are also rumors about two corps in the structure of Territorial Defense Forces. Hopefully, this will not happen, as TDF units should not be used as frontline formations.

Regarding the appointed commanders, the previous system of operational-tactical command groups and task forces is finally being phased out, as evidenced by the appointment of commanders such as Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, Serhiy Perets, Serhei Sirchenko and Oleksandr Bakulin to lead corps. Additionally, several newly appointed corps commanders have earned recognition through their leadership at the brigade level. Among them are Ruslan Shevchuk, Roman Darmogray, Vasyl Matiyiv, Dmytro Voloshyn, Andriy Biletsky, Denys Prokopenko, and Ihor Obolensky.

Based on the commanders named by Yuriy Butusov, we can determine which brigades will form corps. The commander reportedly aims to start a new era for the unit, adopting mottos such as “Infantry, Commando, Assault,” which are now featured on the unit’s banners.

Soldier of the 2nd Motorized Battalion receiving an award from the commander, October 2025

All three units has ceased to exist as separate entities in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

For those tracking symbolic benchmarks, November 5 was the day Russia’s territorial gains in 2025 surpassed the 3,450 km² secured in 2024.
0
1
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/142.0.0.0 Safari/537.36
["66152","1","2025-09-25 19:46:38","2025-09-25 17:46:38","","news_58linear","2nd Motorized Battalion of 58th Motorized Brigade","inherit","open","closed","","news_58linear","","","2025-11-05 22:19:14","2025-11-05 21:19:14","","64118","https://militaryland.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/news_58linear.webp","0","attachment","image/webp","0","66152

The newest update to the game Squad, titled “The Trident Strike,” introduces a new faction — the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Although the corps was originally formed in 2016 as the Reserve Corps, it was reorganized and renamed the 11th Army Corps in April 2024. The insignia displayed in the game was only introduced in 2023. Thus, this unit is not accurately represented in the game.

The remaining formations correspond to the 2022 era and are listed below.

[pods name="unit" orderby="ukrainian_short_name.meta_value_num" where=" ID IN ('14650','15880','15410','11883','14256','11894','11896')" template="Units List News post" limit="100"][/pods]

Equipment

The faction also introduces several new vehicles: T-64BM2 6TD, BTR-4E, BMP-1TS, Bastion-01, MT-LB-ZU-23, Kozak-2M1, BRDM-2M1, Kraz truck, and reskinned variants of the Mi-8, BMP-1, BMP-2, MT-LB, and BRDM-2. This is where the update’s most significant inaccuracies appear.

The T-64BM2 6TD was operated only by the 92nd Assault Brigade (then the 92nd Mechanized Brigade) in 2022; that brigade is absent from the in-game unit selection. In 2022, the 92nd fielded two companies of these tanks, so including the platform without its historical operator creates a factual inconsistency.

Similarly, the BTR-4E was primarily operated by the 92nd Brigade in 2022, while most BTR-4 variants at the time were in service with the National Guard. Although the 58th Motorized Brigade operates a small number of BTR-4Es today, that was not the case in 2022.

Even rarer systems, such as the Bastion-01 and BMP-1TS, were not in use with regular Armed Forces of Ukraine frontline units in 2022. These platforms were confined to training centers; when the full-scale invasion began, they were removed from training stocks and handed over to the first units that arrived — not fielded as standard equipment by combat brigades.

Conversely, several common vehicles that were widespread in 2022 are missing from the faction. The T-64BV, one of the most common tanks in Ukrainian service, does not appear in the game. The BTR-3 — used by units such as the 95th Air Assault Brigade, which is featured in the update — is also absent.

The other units included in the faction — the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade, 28th Mechanized Brigade, 58th Motorized Brigade, 148th Artillery Brigade, and 35th Marine Brigade — primarily used Soviet-era equipment and Ukrainian MRAPs, such as the Kozak-2, during the 2022 period. These are represented more accurately in the update.

["69645","1","2025-11-12 20:39:15","2025-11-12 19:39:15","","news_squad","","inherit","open","closed","","news_squad","","","2025-11-12 20:39:15","2025-11-12 19:39:15","","68205","https://militaryland.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/news_squad.webp","0","attachment","image/webp","0","69645

When the Russian army broke through Ukraine's front line at a new point in Kharkiv Oblast last month, the immediate question was who would be held responsible. The answer the system has given — quietly, quickly and reveals something far more troubling than a single battlefield failure, as reported by Maryana Bezuhla, a People's Deputy of Ukraine.

Colonel Ivan Shnyr, commander of the 58th Separate Motorized Brigade, has been suspended. He was suspended for losing the village of Veterynarne.

A chain of convenient outcomes

The 14th Army Corps commander Zhytnyak moved against Shnyr unilaterally, without authorization from above. The suspension, in effect, is a holiday.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block; text-align:center;"
     data-ad-layout="in-article"
     data-ad-format="fluid"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-1294996283912605"
     data-ad-slot="2831758378"></ins>

The deputy commander presents an equally stark contrast. Caught in the act of accepting a bribe, he was released on bail set at one million hryvnias. He remains free. The head of the brigade's motor pool, when questions arose about vehicle procurement, chose a different exit: he went absent without leave — officially classified as a deserter — and disappeared.

The vehicles at the center of those procurement questions never arrived at the brigade. It is a working example of how the system functions when accountability threatens those inside it. The question it poses is blunt: in the current structure of Ukraine's military, is it possible to beat soldiers and receive a promotion? To steal and simply transfer? To lose ground at the front and remain a trusted insider? And for those who speak — to have their mouths shut by inspections whose conclusions are already written?

The answer the system is providing, through its actions rather than its public statements, is that all of this is possible. Because compliant commanders are useful. They follow orders when ordered. They write the required reports. They do not find violations when told not to find them.

"Those who speak are sent somewhere they won't return from. Some have already traveled elsewhere to give testimony. The answers it received amount to a comprehensive denial — though one that is careful, in places, to acknowledge the existence of proceedings without accepting any responsibility for what prompted them.

On the core allegations of systematic extortion, the brigade stated that no evidence of organized, forced collection of money from personnel had been found. Routine audits of procurement and logistics, it said, had uncovered no violations. Soldiers sent to frontline positions, the brigade insisted, were deployed to reinforce difficult operational situations.

On the General Staff inspection — which began on 4 April 2026 with a completion date of 4 May — the brigade stated that none of the issues under review had yet been confirmed, while affirming full cooperation with the commission.

The most carefully worded response concerned deputy commander Maksym Bobrovskyi, who faces a criminal suspicion of accepting unlawful benefit in exchange for influence over decisions.
