Today, we're going to cover the Knights of the Winter Campaign.<!--more-->\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4214\" src=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/i_28mb_thumb2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"152\" height=\"152\">28th Mechanized Brigade is a standard mechanized brigade of Ukrainian Ground Forces. At the begging of Russian invasion, the brigade was stationed in Odesa and nearby surroundings.\r\n\r\nOn February 24, during the first hours of the invasion, soldiers of the brigade foiled a Russian ambitious landing at Kobleve in Mykolaiv Oblast. Thanks to the actions of the brigade, the enemy couldn't secure the landing zone and the main force had to withdraw.\r\n\r\nIn March, as it became apparent there are no direct threats to Odesa Oblast from the sea, a mechanized battalion was dispatched to support Ukrainian troops defending Mykolaiv. Subsequently, most of the brigade left for Mykolaiv and is, until today, deployed on the frontline between Mykolaiv and Kherson. Only one mechanized battalion remains stationed in Odesa. The experienced soldiers of 28th Mechanized Brigade help to train servicemen of the 126th Odesa City Defense Brigade of Territorial Defense Forces.\r\n\r\nOn July 23, a Russian rocket hit a command post of the brigade near Mykolaiv and killed the commander and three high-ranking officers. The almost <span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\" data-language-for-alternatives=\"en\" data-language-to-translate-into=\"cs\" data-phrase-index=\"0\" data-number-of-phrases=\"1\"><span class=\"Q4iAWc\">unscathed<\/span><\/span><\/span> brigade suffered its first significant losses.\r\n\r\nIn August 2022, Col. Yuriy Madar was appointed as the new commander of 28th Mechanized Brigade.\r\n\r\n<strong>Manpower losses since the start of Russian full scale invasion*<\/strong>\r\n\r\n[chart id=\"12171\"]\r\n\r\nA dozen of servicemen were wounded, none captured.\r\n\r\nA typical Ukrainian mechanized brigades is 3 000 men strong. If we count with 50 wounded soldiers, then 28th Mechanized Brigade lost less than 2% of its strength since February 24.\r\n\r\n<strong>Manpower replenishment<\/strong>\r\n\r\nAn additional 5th Reserve Battalion was formed in March 2022, likely due to slow formation process of the local territorial brigade. However, the faction contains several factual inaccuracies, which we will clarify in this article.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>According to the patch notes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joinsquad.com\/updates\/squad-10-0-patch-notes\">published on the official Squad website<\/a>, the update focuses on the circa 2022 era of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Although the corps was originally formed in 2016 as the Reserve Corps, it was reorganized and renamed the 11th Army Corps in April 2024. The insignia displayed in the game was only introduced in 2023. This is where the update\u2019s most significant inaccuracies appear.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The T-64BM2 6TD was operated only by the 92nd Assault Brigade (then the 92nd Mechanized Brigade) in 2022; that brigade is absent from the in-game unit selection. In 2022, the 92nd fielded two companies of these tanks, so including the platform without its historical operator creates a factual inconsistency.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Similarly, the BTR-4E was primarily operated by the 92nd Brigade in 2022, while most BTR-4 variants at the time were in service with the National Guard. Although the 58th Motorized Brigade operates a small number of BTR-4Es today, that was not the case in 2022.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Even rarer systems, such as the Bastion-01 and BMP-1TS, were not in use with regular Armed Forces of Ukraine frontline units in 2022. These platforms were confined to training centers; when the full-scale invasion began, they were removed from training stocks and handed over to the first units that arrived \u2014 not fielded as standard equipment by combat brigades.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Conversely, several common vehicles that were widespread in 2022 are missing from the faction. The T-64BV, one of the most common tanks in Ukrainian service, does not appear in the game. The BTR-3 \u2014 used by units such as the 95th Air Assault Brigade, which is featured in the update \u2014 is also absent.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The other units included in the faction \u2014 the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade, 28th Mechanized Brigade, 58th Motorized Brigade, 148th Artillery Brigade, and 35th Marine Brigade \u2014 primarily used Soviet-era equipment and Ukrainian MRAPs, such as the Kozak-2, during the 2022 period.
