the first half of 2023, following the Kharkiv offensive, where operational units of the International Legion had participated in battles around Kupyansk alongside the <a This includes the new direction of the Legion's former training battalion. Since September 2025, the unit has maintained a low profile on its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/157_training_centre\/\">official Instagram account<\/a>, pausing public activity and recruitment.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Later in November 2025, the battalion's <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/157_training_centre\/\">official Instagram<\/a> revealed that it had been reformed, now going by the designation of the <strong>157th International Training Center<\/strong> of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. The first steps in this disbandment process were first reported on by <em>MilitaryLand<\/em>, and later confirmed by the Kyiv Independent as well as several other news outlets.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>It is known, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/ukrainian\/articles\/c1lrr87nnreo\">reported by <em>BBC News Ukraine<\/em><\/a>, that the disbandment process is aimed to be completed by December 31, 2025, with three of the four battalions fully reformed or reassigned into new formations.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>It is important to emphasize that the disbandment of the International Legion only covers the four battalions under its umbrella, and the disbandment process does not affect the <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ukraine\/main-intelligence-directorate\/a3449\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"20790\">International Legion of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine <\/a>in any way, and it remains fully operational. The <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ukraine\/armed-forces\/1st-international-legion\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"23702\">1st International Legion<\/a>, also known as the <strong>1st Infantry Battalion of the International Legion<\/strong>, had briefly expanded its Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Platoon to the size of a Company, indicating its commitment to keep up with technological innovations on the battlefield. <\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>At the same time, challenges arose. <em>MilitaryLand <\/em>learned of the disbandment of a drone team inside <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ukraine\/armed-forces\/1st-international-legion\/charlie-company\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"41395\">Charlie Company<\/a>, which shifted to only performing infantry assignments. His view attributed these shortcomings to the failures within the leadership of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, being unable to effectively develop and employ these units.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Furthermore, the 2nd International Legion was also subordinated to the <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ukraine\/armed-forces\/16th-army-corps\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"45510\">16th Army Corps<\/a>, as <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/news\/2nd-international-legion-joins-kharkiv-corps\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"66128\">reported by <em>MilitaryLand<\/em><\/a>, indicating a shift in effort to place the unit within a permanent command structure and defined area of responsibility, employing their use more effectively under the corps-level leadership formed largely from officers of the <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ukraine\/armed-forces\/92nd-mechanized-brigade\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"15636\">92nd Assault Brigade<\/a>.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The constant uneven development of these battalions made it difficult for them to develop beyond their chronic problems of fatigue, casualties, and a lack of manpower, also burdened by the fact that they were not integrated into a proper or permanent command structure promptly, making it difficult for them to plead their case to continue existing as a separate unit.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:kadence\/advancedheading {\"uniqueID\":\"73801_9b2cd9-00\",\"markBorder\":\"\",\"markBorderStyles\":[{\"top\":[null,\"\",\"\"],\"right\":[null,\"\",\"\"],\"bottom\":[null,\"\",\"\"],\"left\":[null,\"\",\"\"],\"unit\":\"px\"}],\"tabletMarkBorderStyles\":[{\"top\":[null,\"\",\"\"],\"right\":[null,\"\",\"\"],\"bottom\":[null,\"\",\"\"],\"left\":[null,\"\",\"\"],\"unit\":\"px\"}],\"mobileMarkBorderStyles\":[{\"top\":[null,\"\",\"\"],\"right\":[null,\"\",\"\"],\"bottom\":[null,\"\",\"\"],\"left\":[null,\"\",\"\"],\"unit\":\"px\"}]} -->\n<h2 class=\"kt-adv-heading73801_9b2cd9-00 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading73801_9b2cd9-00\">Disbandments and Reassignments<\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:kadence\/advancedheading -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>On December 9, 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pravda.com.ua\/articles\/2025\/12\/09\/8010990\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.pravda.com.ua\/articles\/2025\/12\/09\/8010990\/\"><em>Ukrainska Pravda<\/em> reported<\/a> the first formation to be reassigned, being the 1st International Legion. It was reported that this battalion would be transferred under the command of the <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ukraine\/armed-forces\/475th-assault-regiment\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"41304\">475th Assault Regiment<\/a>, one of the newer assault units that had been expanded from a battalion in August 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/news\/code-9-2-grows-from-battalion-to-regiment\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/news\/code-9-2-grows-from-battalion-to-regiment\/\">reported <\/a>by <em>MilitaryLand<\/em>.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The reporting also clarified that the 475th Assault Regiment is currently under the jurisdiction of the <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ukraine\/armed-forces\/command-of-the-ground-forces\/\">Command of the Ukrainian Ground Forces<\/a>. While the formation of dedicated <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ukraine\/armed-forces\/assault-troops\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"64242\">Assault Troops<\/a> has <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/news\/creation-of-assault-troops-in-the-ukrainian-army\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/news\/creation-of-assault-troops-in-the-ukrainian-army\/\">commenced<\/a>, they have not yet been officially established, meaning all assault formations remain as they are present. Reportedly, there is little willingness among foreign volunteers in these line battalions to transfer into assault formations, with <a href=\"https:\/\/zn.ua\/ukr\/war\/ne-treba-rozvaljuvati-te-shcho-pratsjuje-internatsionalnij-lehion.html\">figures <\/a>put at only a small percentage of 10 to 20% of the foreigners completing the transition from each battalion.
