Colonel Oleksandr Sak, who assumed command of the 53rd Mechanized Brigade in November 2024. He had earlier served in the <a href=\"https:\/\/militaryland.net\/ua\/ukraine\/armed-forces\/93rd-mechanized-brigade\/\" data-type=\"unit\" data-id=\"15153\">93-\u0442\u044f \u043c\u0435\u0445\u0430\u043d\u0456\u0437\u043e\u0432\u0430\u043d\u0430 \u0431\u0440\u0438\u0433\u0430\u0434\u0430<\/a>, acting as the commander of the brigade&#8217;s 3rd Mechanized Battalion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During this period, Sak was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pravda.com.ua\/eng\/articles\/2024\/12\/23\/7490268\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.pravda.com.ua\/eng\/articles\/2024\/12\/23\/7490268\/\">involved in supporting<\/a> the creation of the Signum unit, which was initially formed by volunteers in February 2022 as an infantry formation before transitioning to unmanned systems operations. the 53rd Mechanized Brigade, and in December that year, Signum was transferred to the unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After Colonel Sak was reassigned in May 2025 to command the 59th Assault Brigade, the battalion\u2019s latest transfer may suggest a preference to reunite with its former leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, integration into the Unmanned Systems Forces will possibly help the unit to become more effective, with the entire branch aimed at strengthening and modernizing the approach of drones and unmanned systems in general to become more effective across the frontline, with a
