The Ukrainian Marine Corps, operating under the Ukrainian Navy, has announced a comprehensive reform process affecting all coastal defense brigades under its command \u2014 namely the 34th, 39th, and 40th Coastal Defense Brigades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All three formations were established just over a year ago. They originated from two Territorial Defense Brigades and one Mechanized Brigade that had been transferred to the 30th Marine Corps and subsequently reorganized. The 40th Coastal Defense Brigade, formed on the basis of the 150th Mechanized Brigade, became the first coastal defense brigade created within the Ukrainian Armed Forces since 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the time of their formation, these brigades were widely assessed as hybrid structures, combining elements of mechanized and marine units. Their role appeared primarily defensive, with a focus on protecting critical infrastructure and maintaining security along riverine and coastal lines.<\/p>\n\n\n
