Special Purpose Battalion Taifun

Taifun is a special-purpose unmanned systems unit of the National Guard.

The unit was established in May 2024 as the Special-Purpose Unmanned Systems Detachment “Typhoon”. In July 2024, it was transferred to the 22-га бригада.

Following the Ukrainian military’s transition to a corps-based organizational structure, the detachment joined the 2-й корпус Хартія. During this period, it continued to operate as an separate unmanned systems formation while retaining its own command structure and traditions.

In May 2026, the unit entered a new stage in its development when it became part of the Pilum Regiment of the 1st Azov Corps. Despite its incorporation into the regiment, the Typhoon Special Purpose Battalion retained its name, leadership, and unit traditions while continuing combat operations as a component of the regiment’s unmanned systems force.
