General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is the central military command and control body. It is responsible for planning the national defense, strategic planning of the use of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and specific forces and assets of other components of the Defence Forces, coordination and control over the performance of defense-related tasks by governmental authorities, local self-governing bodies, and Defense Forces within the scope established by the laws of Ukraine and acts of the President of Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Ihor Skybyuk is a career paratrooper. He was born on October 10, 1976, in Konotop, Sumy region. He began his military service in 1998 as a platoon commander in the 80th Air Assault Brigade. When Russia launched its military aggression against Ukraine in 2014, the 80th Air Assault Brigade was among the first Ukrainian units to enter combat. Skybyuk fought alongside his troops in some of the war’s fiercest battles, including Ilovaisk and Debaltseve. He was wounded in 2014 but returned to active se…
