Deepstatemap reports the capture of Vesele (north of Avdiivka) but the Russians have not claimed it. A mistake ?
Battles raging in and around Bakhmut. Dmitry Kotsyubaylo (aka DaVinci), commander of the 1st battalion of the 67th brigade, and Andriy Lukanyuk, Battalion Commander of the 80th Air Assault Brigade, were killed today.
I am afraid that holding Bakhmut can become a slaughter of Ukrainian most capable forces. And I am also afraid that the decision to hold Bakhmut has been political not military.
On both sides, these are political decisions. The question is, which
policy is the better one…?

much further ahead by now, if you would have just kept going after the

I’m actually shocked they made an article about it.
I never would’ve thought that they would admit that defending this city is just as a big of a nightmare if not even more so than attacking it.
Although it still contains some propaganda, it’s definitely one of the more realistic views on the war.

Willy OAM youtube channel has a good interview with a volunteer in Bakhmut about two weeks ago.
I am not surprised at all. It makes a lot of sense to save well trained for offense or important areas. Bakhmut is not important, just for atriding Russia. If the West would give more weapons/ammo, things would be easisier for Ukraine.
Ukraine just does, what it has to do, with what it got.
The territorial forces are in front but in fact the army is just behind to do the mechanized counter-offensives after there positions have been lost. Those too have high casualties. This is why the russians advances are so slow.
What else should the soldiers in Bakhmut tell? That they enjoy it and that it’s like a vacation? Or that he wants to have a new bike.If one is for weeks at the front, then one needs evenly also many weapons. So I don’t find it all that surprising that soldiers at the front demand such things. If the Russians always shoot down two more missiles than you have, then it is always too little.
These soldiers have just come from the front and are totally under adrenaline. They probably haven’t had a good night’s sleep in weeks, no hot water and only cold, wet weather.In such situations, everyone is inclined to question everything critically.
If you interview the same men again in half a year, after a time without fighting at the front, they will certainly tell completely different, less critical stories.

I hope the seeming Russian move toward Chasiv Yar rather than trying to close off Bakhmut backfires on the Russians.
Moving to Chasiv Yar would be difficult at least because of the canal over which the bridge has been destroyed. More probably they will push north-west along the road M03 to Slaviansk in order to cut the rear of the Siversk salient.
