It’s time to look into the future and talk about what awaits us in 2024.

In a few weeks, it will be ten years since Russia annexed Crimea and invaded Donbas. We have sad and painful anniversaries ahead. However, before we get there, it is time to talk about the site and where it is heading.

I created the website in 2017 to write about Ukrainian volunteer and regular units. It can be hard to imagine, but there was no English-speaking site about Ukrainian units and the army back then. Today, the situation is different. Ukrainian Army is a popular topic, the units are well-known and plenty of people are writing about them. The only downside are the so-called copy cats – people who use us as the source and copy information from us. They usually don’t credit us, or even worse, they pretend that it is theirs.

Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 brought the site to another level. Maps and regular summaries brought many new visitors here, and the website gained its popularity because of it, even the unwanted one. However, it also shifted the MilitaryLand’s heading to somewhere else. Maintaining the website, writing summaries, adding units to database etc. is time-consuming and impossible to manage in a long term.

I sometimes wish my free time was unlimited, but it is not. I need to prioritize my personal life, and I can no longer spend the majority of it working on this website. No, it isn’t the end of MilitaryLand.net. I just need to make it what it was before – an enjoyable hobby, not a duty, not a stressful and sleepless obligation.

In order to achieve this, I need to take some actions. Our well-known summaries have come to its end, and maps will go its own separate way. I thank you all for reading them, and if you like the maps, please stay tuned for more details.

MilitaryLand.net will now focus on what it was all about when I started the website in 2017, Ukrainian regular and volunteer units. If you like what you see here, and you would like to help, feel free to get in touch. There are a lot of units we are still missing on the website, they are plenty of topics to write about.

Last but not least, I would like to thank MilitaryLand.net contributors – Cossack, zhutatko, sirdo and the moderators team that take cares of our Discord server – EnaxTM, Cossack, Dikobraz, Evvuut, Kodiak and Sarveza.

Happy 2024

– Jerome
