Yuri Chekh
Known by the call sign “Karl,” he joined Azov in 2014, rising from fighter to Colonel while leading key battles like Shyrokyne and Kominternove. A law graduate from Yaroslav Mudryi National University, he played a crucial role in Mariupol’s defense in 2022 before enduring Russian captivity. After his release in September 2022, he led Azov’s training section, commanded a battalion tactical group in 2024, and became commander of the international battalion in 2025. Highly decorated, he has held roles from machine gunner to company commander, showcasing his adaptability and leadership.
