Operation Report 2019 – Week #19

Operation reports are summary of what happened in Joint forces operation zone (previously known as Anti-Terrorist Operation zone or ATO) during the last week. 

Casualties

May 6, 2019

  • Sakalʹ Ivan (35th Marine Brigades) a senior sergeant. He was wounded during a skirmish near Nikolaevka on May 1. He died five days later.
  • Bondarenko Viktor (57th Mechanized Brigade) a soldier. He died in the area of Joint Forces Operation zone. No other details are known.

May 7, 2019

  • Drohin Serhiy (Aydar Battalion) a commander of 2nd company. He was killed by enemy sniper near Pivdenne, Donetsk Region.

May 8, 2019

  • Kovalʹ Volodymyr (79th AirAssault Brigade) an officer. He was killed during a skirmish near Pavlopil, Donetsk Region.

Military

The British ship HMS Echo arrived in Odesa

The HMS Echo reconnaissance ship of the British Royal Navy arrived in Odesa on the morning of May 6. The ship departed on May 10 after joint training with Ukrainian Navy.

New commander of Joint Forces appointed

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has appointed new Commander of the Joint Forces Oleksandr Syrskiy. The move is part of the planned rotation of forces.

O. Syrskiy was a commander of 72nd AirAssault Brigade in the 2000s and deputy chief of the Main Command Center before the war. He was chief commander of the operation to defend Debaltsevo and surrounding areas as well as following withdrawn operation from the town.
